I’ve just installed Flock version 2 beta and although it is a beta software it is proving very stable and fully functional. It is based on the excellent Firefox 3 but is massively extended to seamlessly integrate tools such as Flickr, Facebook, Digg, and other popular social networking applications.
I am still getting to grips with all its features so call back again soon for an update.
“Hybrid courses,” or courses that deliver part of their instruction in a
traditional lecture manner and part in an online environment, are
becoming increasingly popular among schools and colleges. Proponents of
the concept say it capitalizes on the benefits that both face-to-face
and online learning can provide—and now, there is some evidence to
suggest that hybrid courses can help students learn more effectively.
The Internet in Education conference is over and by all accounts it was a very successful day. Over 130 delegates from Irish primary and secondary schools attended the day long event hosted in Tipperary Institute. I delivered a short workshop to two groups and offered a low cost ” ‘free’ as in freedom” approach to building a computer lab for schools using opensource tools and old computers.
Thanks to all the participants who got stuck in, even though we had the end-of-day time slots.
I promised to publish the slides as they didn’t make it to the free USB drive so here goes. I have embedded a slideshare version of the presentation in this post that you can view straight away, alternatively but you can download a ppt an odp or a pdf version.
Thanks again to all who came along and hopefully we will see you all back again next year!
Well it has been over a year since I set up this site and I have to apologise profusely to my one and only visitor, myself ! This year I have made a promise to myself to start posting on a regular basis. Bernie at irish.typepad.com has been patiently hinting for the last two years that a group of us in Tipperary Institute should get online and blog about our specialist areas.
My second real post will be coming soon and will be based on a workshop that I am running for the annual Internet Experience in Education conference in Tipperary Institute on June 7th 2007.
The idea of this resource came to me in November 2005 when I was preparing for a presentation at the 2nd Irish MoodleMoot in the Dublin Dental School & Hospital. I gave a short presentation titled A day in the life of an open source instructor, you can still access a streamed videofeed. I felt that an online resource that followed the presentation theme might be useful to others so here it finally is.
